<div>
<br /></div>

<br /></div>
<div>
2. <b>Read A Poem</b></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Homemade gifts are the best, right? Why not use the audio recording feature on your phone to record <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjYfCBfJ3DysH5Rk0tCRYa5G3BhPasQkqIvN8aToVTD83SSSSy7sxKMzp5Z0yC47yvXcvvJqB8YkmeM12_g8qrqr-ScB5eJx_IqdZYhNgTGcXqVgxP5nv_g-dEVgL88lp3N-GQ2Et6ZYwBF/s1600/ClipartKey_203000.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1092" data-original-width="1595" height="136" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjYfCBfJ3DysH5Rk0tCRYa5G3BhPasQkqIvN8aToVTD83SSSSy7sxKMzp5Z0yC47yvXcvvJqB8YkmeM12_g8qrqr-ScB5eJx_IqdZYhNgTGcXqVgxP5nv_g-dEVgL88lp3N-GQ2Et6ZYwBF/s200/ClipartKey_203000.png" width="200" /></a></div>

<div>
Here is a poem I recorded for my teachers using Chatterpix. I texted it to each of them during Teacher Appreciation Week.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
3. <b>Amazon Gift Card</b><br />
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjcrijg7kDig0vfwWRP_cSTiI5AHxRUtXf1p5KHGkcVkFpPr9hPuHDoYnh9ujnkz_OXL42ze-OAbMJomfO_HbdR-yvuvBI_nE3_xT2mPhcMdaWOs8mhD6mNN-2O__L3gV3Vte5S6juYsmwF/s1600/Screen+Shot+2020-05-04+at+3.50.43+PM.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnBfo6PReP2V-k0KqUcC_ymblNH6ZXMRwt2g8dMwl-GYe5Y4P3VpY8sbTV5obaqpDj084o8OCvbdyhqZDJae0_ydndi9o_AVPOEyjQKIYRpNQnW7HKsllCVhPzEERAD5ugQ4wE2gI9ZpmS/s1600/Screen+Shot+2020-05-04+at+3.52.14+PM.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img alt="Amazon gift card amounts to choose" border="0" data-original-height="728" data-original-width="1232" height="189" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnBfo6PReP2V-k0KqUcC_ymblNH6ZXMRwt2g8dMwl-GYe5Y4P3VpY8sbTV5obaqpDj084o8OCvbdyhqZDJae0_ydndi9o_AVPOEyjQKIYRpNQnW7HKsllCVhPzEERAD5ugQ4wE2gI9ZpmS/s320/Screen+Shot+2020-05-04+at+3.52.14+PM.png" title="" width="320" /></a><img alt="Amazon gift card" border="0" data-original-height="748" data-original-width="507" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjcrijg7kDig0vfwWRP_cSTiI5AHxRUtXf1p5KHGkcVkFpPr9hPuHDoYnh9ujnkz_OXL42ze-OAbMJomfO_HbdR-yvuvBI_nE3_xT2mPhcMdaWOs8mhD6mNN-2O__L3gV3Vte5S6juYsmwF/s200/Screen+Shot+2020-05-04+at+3.50.43+PM.png" title="" width="135" /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
You can order email, text, print-at-home or mail gift cards from Amazon. If it is in your budget, <br />
teachers always appreciate Amazon gift cards. They can get something to use for distance learning (like a headset or mouse) or use it for a hobby.<br />
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
When you send a gift this way you can track when it is sent and when they open it. </div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So you know that they got it!</div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
You don't have to go broke with a large staff either, Amazon let's you send gift cards for $1 - $2000. To enter an amount less than $25 just type in the Enter and Amount box - you can go as low as $1 - you could send a dollar a day for the whole month!</div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
4. <b>Send A Song</b></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Harness the power of YouTube and send teachers a song during the week. You can help teachers feel inspired, calm, connected and happy with a song. Choose songs that mean something to you and include a simple message about why you selected it. Text a different song each day and generate smiles and warm feelings.<br />
<br />
Here is a <a href="https://docs.google.com/document/d/1K_9ZzbmZbj7EVpNDunoPT5XJt3xz7JIHzlyWfkIXE2E/edit?ts=5eb0a941" target="_blank">playlist from K-5 Principal, Denise Harnden. </a> </div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I made a playlist on <a href="https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLPjRRpCkO2ijfVrmD3xb7MzcH1y31u7ZQ" target="_blank">YouTube of 10 Songs for Teacher Appreciation Week</a>.</div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
5. <b> Teacher Squad Video</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Create a compilation video with messages for all your teachers from you, support staff and families. Send to them in a text or share it on social media. Teachers will appreciate hearing heartfelt messages thanking them for their dedication to students. You can use a ton of different apps for this. Here are my top 3 faves based on ease of use: <a href="https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT207849" target="_blank">Clips</a>, <a href="https://animoto.com/blog/guides/getting-started-animoto" target="_blank">Animoto,</a> <a href="https://spark.adobe.com/features" target="_blank">Adobe Spark</a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Here is a <a href="https://spark.adobe.com/video/58li1R0fzrzie" target="_blank">video made with Adobe Spark </a>by educator, Charlene Knowlton, for the students at her middle school.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br />
Get creative for Teacher Appreciation - you can do a lot with a little and brighten your teacher's day!</div>

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">-------------------------</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">In "Don't Ditch That Tech", the authors state that "What we do know from the science of learning is that, at every stage of the learning process attention is a central component in moving skills and content to the long term memory. For us as practitioners, this means that we should not just seek to grab attention at the beginning of a lesson, but we should strive to keep our students engaged throughout our time with them." This may be difficulty decoding words, typing a response, or understanding vocabulary in the text. When a student encounters a barrier they can get frustrated, lose interest and attention wanders. When we design a lesson to remove these barriers, then all students have access thus increasing their rate of engagement.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Integrating fun, new apps and tools into a lesson is always exciting, but for this post I wanted to focus helping remove barriers and maintaining student interest and engagement with content. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Presenting content to students in only one or two similarly styled ways may present barriers for learning and lead to disengagement. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">To overcome this barrier, teachers can use technology to provide options for students when dealing with digital content. </span><br />

<h4>
Describe your day job: </h4>
My position is split between Director of Innovation and Special Projects for Del Norte County Office of Education and as Principal of <a href="https://www.facebook.com/MountainElementarySchool/" target="_blank">Gasquet Mountain Elementary School</a> which is a STEM school in Del Norte County, California. As Director of Innovation, I support teachers, administrators and students in the effective integration of technology to support learning. I also implement ideas to promote new and innovative teaching practice. Del Norte County has one school district with approximately 4000 K-12 students and 240 teachers. My work involves building structures and supports to increase academic achievement and engagement through collaboration, communication, creativity, and critical thinking. Some of my projects include:<br />
<br />

<li><a href="http://www.noworksheetweek.com/" target="_blank">No Worksheet Week </a>(and month) to support innovative teaching with Matthew Weld</li>
</ul>
<div>
As a Principal of a K-8 STEM school I have built a STEM program with an emphasis on Environmental Science to provide rigorous learning combined with engineering and project based learning. Together with my teaching staff we work to create student centered learning environments that include real world applications. Our goal is to give students the knowledge and skills they need to be informed citizens and pursue STEM subjects in college or as a career.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<h4>
What motivates me as a learner?</h4>
<div>
Caring about the subject I am learning.</div>
<div>
Achieving and earning recognition (points, grades, achievement levels, etc.)</div>
<div>
Feedback (Teacher to student, peer to peer)</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<h4>
What motivates me as a leader?</h4>
<div>
Helping others</div>
<div>
Seeing accomplishments reached</div>
<div>
Getting better</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<h4>
Why are you taking this course?</h4>
<div>
I have been a UDL fan since I first heard Katie Novak speak. <a href="https://twitter.com/RaeFearing/status/830994607718567936" target="_blank">She even stopped by a UDL focused Twitter Chat I hosted once for #CAedchat!</a> Katie has said she learned from Dr. Kristan Rodriguez, so I for that reason I jumped at the chance when I saw this course. I am taking this course to help me better support my school and my district as we move into UDL implementation and improved learning for all of our students.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<h4>
What do you hope to gain from this course?</h4>
<div>
My goal is to increase my knowledge and move further into my own understanding of UDL. I want to support not only my own school site, but also all teachers and school in my district as they start on their UDL journey.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<h4>
What assets and challenges do you bring to our new community of learners?</h4>
<div>
Experience with online learning both as a student and as a teacher/facilitator of learning</div>
<div>
Basic knowledge of UDL</div>
<div>
Enthusiasm for connecting and learning from others</div>

The book we are reading is <a href="http://ditchthattextbook.com/2019/06/12/5-ideas-for-creating-captivating-experiences-in-class/#more-10167" target="_blank">Don't Ditch That Tech, by Matt Miller.</a><br />

<br />
After reading the first two chapter's of <a href="http://ditchthattextbook.com/2019/06/12/5-ideas-for-creating-captivating-experiences-in-class/#more-10167" target="_blank">Don't Ditch That Tech, by Matt Miller.</a> I was inspired to learn a few new tech tools and revisit some tools I haven't used in a while. As a school administrator I work with teachers and administrators daily. Here are three ways I want to improve what I do, digitally.<br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">1. Increase personalized learning with interactive tutorials </span><br />

Genius! No more trying to record my screen while trying to highlight locations and where to click. The app does it for you and you can easily edit any step. I have made many 'how to' videos for teachers and this app just saved me tons of time.<br />
<br />
Here is my first tutorial with iorad - a quick tutorial about how to create a blog new post with Blogger. I really like how you can customize the highlight boxes and text. It will even auto generate the voice over! For those days when you just don't feel like talking.<br />
<br />
This is a great tutorial maker. I like that it is a Chrome extension, students could use it to and create helpful tutorials for concepts they have mastered.<br />

<b><span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif;"><br /></span></b><span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif;">Thinglink was founded in Finland in 2010. It has been growing in the USA since 2013. With Thinglink students create highly engaging and dynamic images that can be shared anywhere in the world. Students can create or find an image, upload it to Thinglink and then tag it with text, web links, videos, or images. You can even create augmented 360 videos in Thinglink. What a great way for students to create a virtual tour of their school or classroom! This tool can be used in any subject area and allows teachers to modify and re-design their assignments. With a $35 dollar premium account, teachers can manage students and help them master digital skills to help them in future college or career endeavors.</span><br />

<br />
<ol>
<li><span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif;"><b>Book character bios</b> - students create or find an image of the character and tag it with related information and media that they find on the web or create themselves. </span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif;"><b>Maps</b> - have students tag a map with a "Top 5" - top ... engineering feats in the world, battle sites, Civil Rights hotspots, scientists in the world...you get the idea.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif;"><b>Close read of an image</b> - practice close reading skills with an image, have students leave a tag of an observation they make of the image, you could also do this with a piece of text.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif;"><b>Life Cycles </b>- have students create stop motion animations of a life cycle and tag an image of the life cycle with the videos they create.</span></li>

<b><span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif;"><br /></span></b><span style="font-size: large;">3. YouTube Playlists for Content Curation</span><br />
<br />
<b><span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif;">Tech tool: YouTube</span></b><br />
<br />
Curating more content for teachers is another way I can improve what I do. YouTube Playlists let me assemble videos for any topic I want and then easily share the list with teachers. One thing I love about this is that YouTube allows me to centralize my content for easy accessibility. I just have to make sure teachers follow me on YouTube and then they can easily find any playlist I have created.<br />
<br />
Playlists I have created so far:<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Take a lesson from Dr. Lanning of iRobot. <br />If student responses are limited, <br />you must ask the right questions!</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
Are you are getting little or no responses from your students about their learning? Do students ask, "Is this the right answer?"<br />
<br />
If student responses are limited, then you may not be asking the right questions.<br />
<br />
<br />
<b>Give students the right answer. </b><br />
<b><br /></b>
<b>Then ask questions that guide deeper learning.</b><br />
<b><br /></b>
<br />
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: left; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2iJw5OPVNT4aGD9MSquka5T-wQ2hKOY1F4cGe9hN4CnsmPBiTo0koEFbip9IF7hsFSIJ7I_ydVLglu3fLPqptFtaV-DTcEpvw9VVb_ofxpz-HEumUAo5BrfhKd2-cDXS5QI3UwFkpOzVR/s1600/Creativity+Quote+Sir+Ken.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="189" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2iJw5OPVNT4aGD9MSquka5T-wQ2hKOY1F4cGe9hN4CnsmPBiTo0koEFbip9IF7hsFSIJ7I_ydVLglu3fLPqptFtaV-DTcEpvw9VVb_ofxpz-HEumUAo5BrfhKd2-cDXS5QI3UwFkpOzVR/s320/Creativity+Quote+Sir+Ken.png" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://www.kqed.org/mindshift/40217/sir-ken-robinson-creativity-is-in-everything-especially-teaching" target="_blank">Mindshift Article</a></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
When asking students to complete a task that has a right answer you may actually be limiting creativity and deeper thinking. Consider ways to shift the focus from finding the right answer to understanding why an answer is right or how a change would affect the right answer. When you decrease the quest for a 'right answer' you increase creativity and critical thinking.<br />
<br />
Many times, math worksheets are a series a of problems for students to solve. Don't forget to show your work to earn all the points! With tools available today [like <a href="https://photomath.net/en/" target="_blank">PhotoMath</a>] students can simply take a picture of a problem and that answer and all the work are provided for them. Look for ways to have students explain, clarify or elaborate their thinking.<br />
<br />
<br />
Instead of this<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZjY2be5GngFpHKxTsdKpE47I4wPTSAjF_3CMzPSqbDJ-5CbdXvZLjTAVAowPB-yNJKYZYQN-RGF82N3IZSKNEACYItEIsntnQjg4J92NEKqjzQZJKD_oLUmdaeL1xY4mFAcQ5trXIRVj4/s1600/Screen+Shot+2019-04-03+at+4.08.40+PM.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZjY2be5GngFpHKxTsdKpE47I4wPTSAjF_3CMzPSqbDJ-5CbdXvZLjTAVAowPB-yNJKYZYQN-RGF82N3IZSKNEACYItEIsntnQjg4J92NEKqjzQZJKD_oLUmdaeL1xY4mFAcQ5trXIRVj4/s320/Screen+Shot+2019-04-03+at+4.08.40+PM.png" width="248" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Complete the function table</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<br />
<br />
Try this<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Version 1 - Record yourself explaining how this rule works and how you know if these answers are right or wrong.<br />

No more having to give someone your Amazon Login or making a special wish list.<br />
<br />
With the <a href="https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/share-a-cart-for-amazon/peiobddfomnijgoblelfdmjblplojcoe?hl=en-US" target="_blank">Amazon Share A Cart Chrome Extension </a>you can easily send a shopping cart to someone else. I use it all the time to send a list to my secretary, so she can create a purchase order and order my items. The great thing about Amazon's Share A Cart is that it includes amounts of each item. When I have shared a school 'wish list' before, it never allowed me to indicate if I wanted more than one of any item. I would have to include that in an email. Making the process more complicated and inefficient.<br />
<br />
Here is a 2 minute tutorial on how I use this extension. I hope you find it useful!<br />

At the beginning of each school year, I focus staff PD on learning new ways to incorporate technology into the classroom. Creating paper circuits is a good way to teach the basics of electricity and how circuits function. In addition to being educational, they can also be a fun makerspace project that helps to bring artwork and paper craft to life. By adding sensors, buzzers, and motors to your circuit, you can also add another dimension of interactivity. </span></span></span></div>

To get more students blogging and writing, I thought I would create a blogging challenge for my district. We kick off on Monday, April 3rd and I can't wait to see what students create.<br />
<br />
It is called the Spring 2017 Student Blog Challenge and will consist of a topic per week for 8 weeks.<br />
<br />
Using resources and ideas from the amazing <a href="https://pernillesripp.com/writing/student-blogging/blogging-challenges/" target="_blank">Pernille Ripp</a> and Ronnie Burt's 5<a href="https://www.theedublogger.com/2015/10/15/50-ideas-for-student-blogging-and-writing-online/" target="_blank">0 Ideas for Student Blogging</a>, I came up with the challenge outline.<br />

Currently, we have over 900 students using Kidblog and I am hoping many of these students participate in the challenge and share their ideas and creativity.<br />

"<span style="background-color: white; color: #333333;">With at least 24 percent of teenagers online 'almost constantly,' it's no surprise that fear of missing out is an epidemic among millennials."</span><span style="background-color: white;"><span style="color: #333333;"> (</span><i style="box-sizing: border-box; text-indent: -28px;">ScienceDaily</i><span style="text-indent: -28px;">. ScienceDaily, n.d. Web. 30 Oct. 2016.) While teenagers may need to focus more on their own lives, I think more teachers need to worry about missing out on what is happening in the classrooms of innovative and forward thinking educators. </span></span></span><br />
<br />
Most people have it, in varying degrees, the fear of missing out or #FOMO.<br />
This is what drives me each year to plan for all of the conferences I will attend. I plan my calendar so that I attend certain events each year, even though we all know it is a lot of work to be away from our jobs, even for a few days. I go to CUE and other conferences each year so I don't miss out on my own learning, making connections and experiencing the energy of being around enthusiastic educators and avid learners. It is the #FOMO that drives me to plan for and take educators in my district to conferences each year. We want to keep pushing our selves to get better.<br />
<br />
Each year I attend at least one CUE conference and one STEM conference so I can stay current on STEM topics and<b> learning</b>. No longer do I think of CUE conferences as technology conferences, they are about learning. Teacher learning, student learning, fun learning, collaborative learning. That is why I attend one, or sometimes both, CUE conferences each year. To stay current with my own learning and the learning I facilitate for others. That is why I always take a team of educators with me, so we can not miss out on all things #eduawesome.<br />
<br />
Here are the top 3 things I learned at Fall CUE 2016.<br />
<br />
1. <a href="https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/swift-playgrounds/id908519492?mt=8" target="_blank">Swift Playgrounds</a> - I spent time at #cuesteampunk learning about this new coding software available to middle and high school students. Anyone who has participated in an #HourofCode knows that students LOVE coding and eat this stuff up. Apple even has <a href="https://developer.apple.com/education/" target="_blank">Swift Curriculum</a> on iTunesU.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8qls-wCV_cUpVoPqvhmYMUVDRAlzSWiv7jxaM5Y6si1M5_7t7r_T_2w-PiTt_yTh2aICAp1rmktYUpx4HVDl8n7LKB1Z_Fgw6hn1mvm2Cx_ZcyjanZNRZqU74G7YDRIz2vyq5JAWX_CfZ/s1600/Screen+Shot+2016-10-30+at+2.23.40+PM.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="340" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8qls-wCV_cUpVoPqvhmYMUVDRAlzSWiv7jxaM5Y6si1M5_7t7r_T_2w-PiTt_yTh2aICAp1rmktYUpx4HVDl8n7LKB1Z_Fgw6hn1mvm2Cx_ZcyjanZNRZqU74G7YDRIz2vyq5JAWX_CfZ/s400/Screen+Shot+2016-10-30+at+2.23.40+PM.png" width="400" /></a> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<span style="text-align: center;">2. Gamification encourages participation - Badging is making headway in K-12 education and </span><span style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://cue.chromewarrior.net/" target="_blank">ChromeWarrior</a> created a competitive and fun experience at Fall CUE. I am a supporter of teacher PD through badging - check out <a href="http://edubadger.com/" target="_blank">Edubadger </a>- and I think the more we get teachers on board with personalized, games based learning the more our students will benefit.</span><br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWvI8Ro5931jU3Fq8PRT38k70f8POEiE0GfVfPGsuZvY2bbHbJstj1Yq9iVjwlo847Bx-5CdKWxpURrcVrlTR9JKbTXLaI_M5PkwBT2l3bwPD6IqGsoKBpAj7ObHDaj3yuryIF9Au8OE0d/s1600/Screen+Shot+2016-10-30+at+3.01.51+PM.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWvI8Ro5931jU3Fq8PRT38k70f8POEiE0GfVfPGsuZvY2bbHbJstj1Yq9iVjwlo847Bx-5CdKWxpURrcVrlTR9JKbTXLaI_M5PkwBT2l3bwPD6IqGsoKBpAj7ObHDaj3yuryIF9Au8OE0d/s400/Screen+Shot+2016-10-30+at+3.01.51+PM.png" width="305" /></a></td></tr>

<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div style="text-align: left;">
3. Create classrooms that students would attend even if it wasn't required - Teach Like a Pirate author, <a href="https://twitter.com/burgessdave" target="_blank">Dave Burgess</a>, was on fire during his opening keynote at Fall CUE. He reminded me to keep pushing to be that teacher who creates a buzz on campus and a desire to learn in students. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0BgKfsBXkoywLbUFZbZ99nSRIDwvNm_AXqzjqgdFsWgRhMlWkeEztIWn-cg4_4CVcaoFVEt-bdalj0C2h-wYAalOCrmapDgPh4jvqSeqVZcW-rGHlmo_r2jfDzs0cp9EF1aZvA35ixsxL/s1600/Screen+Shot+2016-10-30+at+2.24.31+PM.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="55" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0BgKfsBXkoywLbUFZbZ99nSRIDwvNm_AXqzjqgdFsWgRhMlWkeEztIWn-cg4_4CVcaoFVEt-bdalj0C2h-wYAalOCrmapDgPh4jvqSeqVZcW-rGHlmo_r2jfDzs0cp9EF1aZvA35ixsxL/s400/Screen+Shot+2016-10-30+at+2.24.31+PM.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Are you a teacher with a #FOMO on what engages today's students? Then join me at a CUE conference and we will all keep getting better.</div>

I am excited to add principal to my list of duties. To start the year right, I developed a <a href="https://sites.google.com/site/mistercorippo/smartstart" target="_blank">Smart Start </a>plan based on the work of my friend <a class="g-profile" href="https://plus.google.com/108992826993287471357" target="_blank">+Jon Corippo</a>. I presented the plan to teachers before the school year started, and then scheduled time to be in class each day this first week of school. As a new principal, with a young staff, I wanted to model these lessons and set the tone for the year. Before the first week Jon gave me advice that took to heart. He said a key component was to not get to fancy. I looked at what I had prepared, which was a bit ambitious, and pared it down into three days of academic mini mixers. I taught a lesson each day in our Grade 4-8 classroom and then again in our TK-3 room.<br />
<br />
Here is my Smart Start Plan for Gasquet Mountain Elementary School.<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="485" marginheight="0" marginwidth="0" scrolling="no" src="//www.slideshare.net/slideshow/embed_code/key/GydLxoeXYn7n7n" style="border-width: 1px; border: 1px solid #ccc; margin-bottom: 5px; max-width: 100%;" width="595"> </iframe> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 5px;">
<div style="text-align: center;">
<strong> <a href="https://www.slideshare.net/RaeFearing/smart-start-16-17-65714232" target="_blank" title="Smart Start 16 17">Smart Start 16 17</a> </strong> from <strong><a href="https://www.slideshare.net/RaeFearing" target="_blank">Rae Fearing</a></strong> </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
There were many benefits from the Smart Start plan. Mainly, I got to know my students better, modeled academic tools and skills for students and teachers, and set a standard of learning and achievement for our school.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Here are some examples of the learning we did together.</div>

By the end of the week we had a common understanding of Frayer Models, Venn Diagrams and iPad camera and photo tools. I can't wait to see how the teachers and students continue to use these skills. My plans are to do one or two more Smart Start refreshers throughout the year and after school breaks. At first, the thought of doing Smart Start for K-8 with multi-grade classrooms was a bit daunting. Keeping it simple and modifying the activities for the two different classrooms worked well. Have you tried Smart Start? Thinking of trying it? I would love to know how it goes! Please share ideas in the comments.</div>

Each lesson consists of a 3-5 minute video, 5-8 questions, resources to learn more a discussion.<br />
I just finished lesson 10 and I feel smarter already! Topics have included the earliest Olympics, how to grow seeds and oddities of the first American elections. <br />

<br />
This has started me thinking about ways to use TED-Ed lessons next year. I am a new principal for a small, K-8 school in rural northern California. I plan to share a lesson a week with my students, families and staff so they can watch them together and have discussions about the topics. These lessons are excellent replacements for traditional homework packets and inspire more learning and investigation. I envision all of us having discussions about cool new ideas and facts we learned each week from TED-Ed! This is just one small way I hope to build shared experiences and community at my little school.<br />

With a <a href="http://ed.ted.com/lessons" target="_blank">TED-Ed account</a> you can build a lesson around any TED-Ed original, TED Talk or YouTube video. You can create your own lesson or customize one of the hundreds of lessons available from TED-Ed. Here is the first lesson I created: <a href="http://ed.ted.com/on/bcWzfbE3%E2%80%8E" target="_blank">What's an Engineer</a>?<br />

If you would like to join the challenge it is not too late. Start with today's lesson (<a href="http://ed.ted.com/lessons/the-psychology-of-narcissism-w-keith-campbell" target="_blank">on Narcissism</a>) or start from July 1st and work your way to the most current lesson.<br />
<br />
The best thing so far about taking part in this challenge is that the lessons are sparking interests in me and I find myself googling terms and people to learn more. With 10 lessons under my belt, my favorite so far has been The Scandalous Life of Tycho Brahe. I would love to know if you take on the challenge and what is your favorite lesson. <span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">So, what is a worksheet? It is NOT just a piece of paper. Going worksheet free does not mean going digital. A digital worksheet is just as dismal as a paper one.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">A worksheet is an assignment you give students that:</span><br />
<ul style="background-color: white; color: #666666; line-height: 18.48px; margin: 0pt 0px; padding: 0px 2.5em;">
<li dir="ltr" style="background-color: transparent; color: #333333; list-style-type: disc; margin: 0px 0px 0.25em; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;"><div dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.15; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;">
<span style="background-color: transparent; font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">is mass-produced, either by the teacher at the copier, a publisher in a workbook or shared on a device.</span></div>
</li>
<li dir="ltr" style="background-color: transparent; color: #333333; list-style-type: disc; margin: 0px 0px 0.25em; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;"><div dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.15; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;">
<span style="background-color: transparent; font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">is given to every student in the classroom.</span></div>
</li>
<li dir="ltr" style="background-color: transparent; color: #333333; list-style-type: disc; margin: 0px 0px 0.25em; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;"><div dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.15; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;">
<span style="background-color: transparent; font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">contains questions with black & white, right or wrong answers. For example, they may be fill-in-the-blank, true/false, multiple choice, or math computational problems.</span></div>
</li>
</ul>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Should you question the worksheet? YES!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Ask yourself if students are motivated to complete the worksheet, or are they doing it out of compliance. Is there another way to teach this information that is more relevant and authentic?</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">As adults, we have to fill out complex worksheets each year for taxes. We avoid it, procrastinate and even pay people to do it for us. How would you feel if you had to do multiple worksheets weekly or even daily?</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Teachers are ditching worksheets and finding better ways to motivate and inspire students to learn. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Here are a few examples:</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>

I chose to focus on creating science themed memes.<br />
<br />
As a former science teacher I love memes that address science issues. There is nothing like getting a good #nerdgiggle from a particularly geeky science meme. I love this play density and the fact that ice floats. See more of these on the <a href="http://www.buzzfeed.com/alexkasprak/best-science-memes" target="_blank">42 Best Science Memes on the Internet</a> from Buzzfeed.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizfsXpdlcftQ5q9AxP_sYDGgFFuPsBbraSt4dKoJm7zxu7MUrj7ZF8Hfn6Tm4TX4Y8B2uIgHMr8bSqfXSO9zJJeFNYC000xZQoexSfdD1WClrRbXnviBiVfXBEjpm2e7Drkh2uJpBYakV_/s1600/ice+cubes+float+meme.jpg" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="197" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizfsXpdlcftQ5q9AxP_sYDGgFFuPsBbraSt4dKoJm7zxu7MUrj7ZF8Hfn6Tm4TX4Y8B2uIgHMr8bSqfXSO9zJJeFNYC000xZQoexSfdD1WClrRbXnviBiVfXBEjpm2e7Drkh2uJpBYakV_/s320/ice+cubes+float+meme.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I had an idea that students could create memes based on science inaccuracies or mistakes in popular media. For this post I did a Google search for science mistakes in movies and watched a short video from Business Insider on <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/the-martian-movie-science-mistakes-2015-10" target="_blank">the biggest science mistakes in the movie The Martian</a>. The meme I created below is from one of the facts shared in the video.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-FD1Qqr9_YAA99Xo012_JBfIlKzF3EHvrWkL0HqwfYiMLGA67_CN2ifTMJ6dJ6LbB0JlCVzQjrtJa2PjKzo-MIeFo08kEGzBA5ZgsNqCZDrIdG5PYWz86Ym9H_iuRGM0oCLFUV2gXtGIy/s1600/the+Martian+science+mistake+meme+%25281%2529.jpg" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="212" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-FD1Qqr9_YAA99Xo012_JBfIlKzF3EHvrWkL0HqwfYiMLGA67_CN2ifTMJ6dJ6LbB0JlCVzQjrtJa2PjKzo-MIeFo08kEGzBA5ZgsNqCZDrIdG5PYWz86Ym9H_iuRGM0oCLFUV2gXtGIy/s400/the+Martian+science+mistake+meme+%25281%2529.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
To create this meme I used Google Drawing and simply added two photos and two text boxes. The nice thing about Google Drawing is that I was able to crop the images, re size them and also brighten and adjust the color. The image editing tools in Google Drawing are simple but effective! </div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
There are meme generators you can use like <a href="https://imgflip.com/memegenerator">Meme Generator</a> or the Meme feature in a photo app like <a href="http://www.enlightapp.com/">Enlight</a>.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I love the idea of students identifying science mistakes in movies, tv, and advertisements and then creating memes that correct the mistake. This is a fun way for students to explore science concepts and think critically about how science is portrayed int he media.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
What ideas do you have for students to create memes?</div>

<br />
The best advice I can give future teachers is to never stop learning. The energy and passion that exudes from an active learner is contagious to students. When you are learning, you model this for your students.<br />
<br />
Someone once asked me if I had a hobby. The only thing I could come up with was that learning is my hobby. I love to learn and I think this is important for all teachers to love learning and love BEING a learner. When I have met teachers who are not learners...it shows.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
When I was getting my masters I would come to my students each week excited about what I was learning. They were always ready to let me try new strategies and ideas. Sometimes they worked, sometimes they didn't. But, we had fun trying. <br />
<br />
Once I took an online self paced course to learn Javascript. This was challenging and reminded me of the frustration my students sometime feel when learning new concepts. Never forget what it feels like to be a student!<br />
<br />
I am out of the classroom now, but when I attend an EdCamp or other professional development I always come back and try something with kids. Whether it is creating green screen videos, 3D printing or blogging on a new topic, I love sharing my learning with students.<br />
<br />

<br /></div>
Recently, I have been learning more about Virtual Reality. I was able to try it while visiting Stanford University last month and I was hooked. A couple of weeks ago I got Google Cardboard Star Wars Edition. I tried it out at home with my family and it was so awesome that I came in the next day and shared it with the students in my building. We spent over almost an hour that day trying out virtual reality apps and learning together. One student summed it up when he said, "You can't use Google Cardboard without a smile on your face'<br />
<br />
That is my goal, more smiles on student faces.<br />

<br />
Challenges like this one always inspire me and keep me reflecting and creating. I know December is super busy so this blog challenge is short, sweet and fun.<br />
<br />
Your challenge, if you choose to accept it, is <b><span style="font-size: large;">4 posts in 4 weeks</span></b><br />
<br />
You can do one a week or all at once, all of them or some of them, that is up to you. Here are the topics for each post.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<b>1. Advice for students studying to becoming teachers. </b>What advice would you give students studying to become teachers? My daughter is in her second year of college studying to become a teacher. These posts will help me share your collective wisdom with her and the thousands of young teachers in training!<br />
<div>
<br /><b>2. Create a meme and post it on your blog.</b> Do you have something to say about education, learning or school? Make a statement with a meme! What is a meme?<br /><blockquote class="tr_bq">
<span style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 22.0444px;">A </span><b style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 22.0444px;">meme</b><span style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 22.0444px;"> (/ˈmiːm/ meem) is "an idea, behavior, or style that spreads from person to person within a culture"</span></blockquote>
<div>
Here is one of the memes I created.</div>
<div>

<b>3. Help make school different.</b> This goes back to my <a href="http://edtechyness.blogspot.com/2015/04/5-things-we-have-to-stop-pretending.html" target="_blank">#MakeSchoolDifferent post</a> from earlier this year. I strongly believe that we have to change school from within, because we can't keep school functioning the same way it has for 100 years. We have to #bethechange because #kidsdeserveit. What is something you are doing to change school for students or what is something you would like to do?</div>

4. <b>New year, new learning.</b> It will be 2016 soon, What is something you want to learn? Take a photo, draw a picture or take a screenshot of something you want to learn in this new year. Post it on your blog and explain why you want to learn about it. The best way to inspire students to be learners is to be an active learner yourself. Share what are you interested in learning.<br /><br /><br />
Bonus! Every day I use technology in my work. Whether creating resources for teachers, supporting teachers with technology integration or helping students be creators, technology is an essential part. This post focuses on three of my most favorite tech tools that have had the biggest impact. While the tool is important, what is more important is how the tool supports my work in education.<br />
<br />
<br />

<br /> 1. Sharing student work with Apple TV </h4>
In our district we have dozens and dozens of <a href="http://www.apple.com/tv/" target="_blank">Apple TV</a>s in classrooms. We plan to use <a href="https://www.google.com/intl/en_us/chromecast/?utm_source=chromecast.com" target="_blank">Chromecast</a> too, but are still working on getting our network able to allow them. Using Apple TV, or a similar tool, in the classroom is one of the most impactful ways to use tech to change classroom culture. Every time I have introduced Apple TV to a classroom I have seen a significant shift in how learners work together. Learning becomes more student centered, feedback is more encouraged and accepted as students are bale to easily and immediately share their work with others at all stages in the creation process. If you are considering using Apple TV in you classroom, here is a <a href="http://edtechyness.blogspot.com/2014/06/managing-your-apple-tv-in-classroom.html" target="_blank">blog post</a> I made a while back with information for teachers getting started.<br />

I can't even remember what life was like BG (before Google). Everyone was soooo isolated! Google has been integral in creating a culture of sharing and collaboration in our district. In any given week I probably collaborate with 10 or more people on a variety of projects. Google Docs allows me to get more done, faster and better. Here are some of my collaborations from last week alone. <a href="http://twitter.com/knelanewton" target="_blank">Knela Newton</a> and I created a <a href="https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Imk9O0n93hDBuYoizq4QvNF6gejw3N8hDzYkfalZEmU/edit?usp=sharing" target="_blank">hyper doc of Hour of Code resources</a> for teachers in our district. I reviewed a <a href="https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1-WY4e7IQRPSa96bOXYDil6hEJRgCfkHGeEhT6Q7a0xA/edit?usp=sharing" target="_blank">slides presentation</a> created by <a href="https://twitter.com/lovestoteach315" target="_blank">Angie Marshall</a> and <a href="https://twitter.com/mrscampbell123" target="_blank">Tracy Campbell</a> about testing for the 3rd grade teachers. I used a <a href="https://docs.google.com/a/delnorte.k12.ca.us/forms/d/11hAdxD9Xd0plTQ2jZ7sRLweBq4Tzb0SsqZEn8J8G30U/viewform" target="_blank">Google form</a> with teachers from a local charter school to get feedback on what they wanted to learn during an hour training. Working with our NGSS Implementation Team, we finalized our <a href="https://docs.google.com/document/d/1dw2bZ3J9pkRUYJqNuATdN4iTgAfRX0LcY4ndTa47NWI/edit?usp=sharing" target="_blank">Engineering Challenges for K-8</a> which start in February. If you haven't looked at <a href="https://www.google.com/edu/products/productivity-tools/" target="_blank">Google Apps for Education</a> for your school or district, what are you waiting for??<br />
<br />
<br />
<h4>
3. Connecting with Google Hangouts</h4>
There are a number of ways to facilitate virtual meetings, but I use Google Hangouts (GHO). Why? Well, it is FREE and simple to use. In fact, I use it ALL THE TIME. I am on GHO at least weekly. The benefits of a GHO is that you can easily call and invite people to join, have a side chat during the call, and easily share your screen or files with participants. In fact, just a few days ago one of my colleagues from another county office of education called me on the phone - and it felt weird. I am just so used to seeing people and talking with them face to face, even if it is virtual. Here are a few of the ways I use GHOs in my district:<br />
<br />
<ul>
<li>Tech support - a teacher can call and show me the problem they are having either by screen sharing or holding a device or object in front of the camera. This eliminates so many questions and saves time.</li>
<li>Record meetings - recently we recorded our technology committee meeting using the Google Hangout on Air feature (GHOA). This allows people who are unable to attend the meeting to still get the information and stay involved.</li>
</ul>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<iframe allowfullscreen="" class="YOUTUBE-iframe-video" data-thumbnail-src="https://i.ytimg.com/vi/v2rP6la6u10/0.jpg" frameborder="0" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/v2rP6la6u10?feature=player_embedded" width="320"></iframe></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<ul>
<li style="text-align: left;">Connect globally - we use GHOs to bing the world to our students and to share what we are doing with the world. Whether it is <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oXcgEB_Uwmk" target="_blank">teaching a digital citizenship lesson across a grade level</a> or bringing an author in virtually to inspire students, we believe that learning is bigger than the classroom. Take a look at <a href="https://plus.google.com/u/0/communities/109532576382533836103" target="_blank">Google Hangouts in Education</a> for more ideas and to get involved.</li>
</ul>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Those are the 3 technology tools that I am most thankful for this year. What are your top 3? You can comment below or create your own blog post. I would love to know what you think.</div>

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-347859404442886663.post-31105527689583974592015-10-15T15:22:00.003-07:002015-10-15T15:22:58.007-07:00Kindergarten iPads - Our Equal Access PlanWe are outfitting kindergarten classes in our district with a minimum of 8 iPads each. The goal is to provide equal access in all classroom and facilitate collaboration and professional learning among teachers about how to effectively integrate this technology. Previously, there were some classrooms that were 1:1, many with small sets of 5-7 and others with no iPads.<br />
<br />
Supporting teachers in developing ways to use iPads to create more student centered, collaborative and creative classrooms is difficult when some classes have one teacher iPad and others are 1:1. To achieve equity with devices we gathered up previously deployed iPads and re-distributed them to the Kindergarten teachers. This is difficult to do, because someone is losing iPads, but it is important to allow us to move towards a baseline of tech in all rooms. It also lets us provide focused professional learning that all Kindergarten teachers can implement and we can measure the effect on skills and practices. We have an iPad Bootcamp planned for January 2016 and will plan more events just for our Kindergarten teachers.<br />
<br />
A list of iPad apps was created that is being pushed out to all Kindergarten iPads. We are removing the frequent "games" folder and trying to provide more creativity based and critical thinking apps. We also kept some of the old favorites for teaching handwriting, and math.<br />
<br />
The total cost of all these apps purchased through Apple's Volume Purchase Program is $9.50 which is about $237.50 for a class set of 25 iPads. We are also providing each classroom with <a href="http://www.blackbox.com/Store/Results.aspx/Carts-and-Storage/Lockers/n-4294815925" target="_blank">Black Box storage and security lockers</a>. <br />
<br />
